Greasers vs. Socs
There are many main differences between the greasers, and the socs. Which is the better group; I don’t know, for they both have their own traits and ideas. (pg. 3, paragraph 1) The idea of being a greaser, usually means that you dress, and act a certain way. The main thing though, is the way you wear your hair. Most greasers where there hair slicked back with gel, and is usually very long, and greasy...which is actually how they got the name "greasers". (pg. 1, paragraph 1) When it comes to there style; the tight blue jeans, and the rolled up sleaves, that's also a main difference between the greasers and the socs. Another thing about greasers, is that they are usually very poor...at least compared to the socs. The socs, or the west-side rich kids, will usually pull up in their shiny mustangs, and jump you, leaving a scar on you for the rest of your life. (pg. 2, paragraph 3) One thing that the socs and the greasers may have in common, is that they both like to smoke and drink, but the way they do it, is what makes them different. Usually when the greasers smoked they did it openly and didn't care what people think, but when the socs did it, they did it a lot, and didn't like to get in trouble. Sometimes, the socs would just pretend they did it, so that people would think coolly of them, even if they didn't. Those are some of the main differences and facts about the socs and the greasers.
So, really different? On the outside - yes! Good job. ~Mrs. Best

We all know that the fifth commandment is: Thou shall not kill. With that in mind, tell me what you would be feeling AND what you would do now if you were Johnny at the end of Chapter 4.
If I were in Johnny's position, I would really have a hard time deciding what to do. Since the fifth commandment says, 'Thou Shall not Kill", then thou shall not kill. Although, I learned in religion class, you are only allowed to kill someone, if it is for self-defense, capital punishment, or in War. Well, obviously, they weren't in war, and they weren't killing as capital punishment, but it was for self-defense. I would probably have just killed him too, since it WOULD be considered doing it to save yourself, or someone else. And also, If my friend was getting killed, and I was getting half-beaten up, I would just want to get it over with. BUT...if it wasn't in self-defense, then I would just have let it go, and would NOT have killed anyone.
Very thoughtful. Glad you are applying your knowledge! ~Mrs. Best

Explain what Ponyboy finds out about Randy and the other Socs at the end of Chapter 7.
In chapter seven, Ponyboy hears a lot of information that may have changed a few things between the greasers and the Socs. Ponyboy ends up meeting a soc that day and his name was Randy. Randy has his own feelings and effections toward the way the greasers and socs treat each other. He thinks it's a total waste of time. Randy wants to get away, so he says he just going to run away and go somewhere where there is no fighting. Somewhat, both sides feel the same way, they just don't know how to express it. I think that what Randy was trying to say was, all the socs really can be nice, they just always think they're better; and in some ways they are. They really don't like all of the fighting. Also, "the socs will forget about it if greasers win (the rumble) or if they don't. Greasers will always be greasers, and socs will be socs." (quoted from book)
I agree with you that both sides feel the same way. Too bad they can't express it! ~Mrs. Best Hi Jane, it's Michaela! I agree with you when you said that both sides feel the same way, but they just don't know how to express it. I think both sides are sick and tired of fighting with each other. I just don't think they want to tell the other side about how they feel because they don't want to seem weak. I think when they fight, they just do it to prove that they are better than each other. The Socs are better than the Greasers in the first place because they are more fortunate. I think that the Greasers fight the Socs to prove that they can be better than the Socs. The Socs fight back because they are trying to keep their position as superior to the Greasers. If they could somehow say they are both equal, than I think the fighting would stop.
Hey Jane, i agree both sides don't want to fight but, the socs think that they are better. But, i disagree with you on that because yes they do have more money but besides money the socs aren't really like a gang there kind of just a bunch of spoild, rich, over confedent brats. The greasers are like brothers they have fun they don't push each other the wrong way and they stick together more and are way closer. Randy i think just gos with the socs to fit in with he crowd and so dose cherry, they both can't stand fights and they both think its not right to drink and all but i think that they would fit in with the greasers more because they seem like the ones that would stick together more and defend each other.
~Nina :) Well, I sure think they are a gang. They ride around looking for trouble and making it if they don't find it! That sounds like a gang to me! ~Mrs. Best
